Facts related to narcotic addiction

Addiction to narcotics is a very common problem today. More and more people are misusing painkillers and this has led to deaths and many other negative things within the society. Narcotics are most often called opiates. Opiates are usually used to treat pain. The most common opiates include:
• codeine
• Hydrocodone
• Morphine
• Oxycodone
• Hydromorphone
• Fentanyl
The opiates are usually derived from the poppy plant specifically from opium. There are many names that are used to refer to them and this includes narcotics, opioids and opiates. Addiction to painkillers is something that is quite common today and this is usually due to the fact that they produce a sense of euphoria or wellbeing.  Tolerance is usually developed among people who use the narcotics for pain relief and they feel a need to take more so as to get an equal effect. This grows into an obsession where one feels a great need to use more and more of the drug. Double doctoring is a common vice that such persons may engage in.
Drug addiction information is important in the sense that one can be able to determine when a loved one is going over board and therefore affords them the much needed help. Very high doses of narcotics can actually lead to death as a result of respiratory and cardiac arrest. The tolerance to having a euphoric effect develops very fast but the effects are really dangerous. This leads people to actually overdosing without knowing they are taking too much.
Overdose of the narcotics is reversible but in a hospital. Usually, naltrexone is used in such a case. It is important to get emergency services in case of any kind of overdose. Also, if you know a person addicted to narcotics, rehab is a great solution.  Narcotic withdrawal does happen and it can be really uncomfortable. The hope out there is the fact that the symptoms are not life threatening especially if you do not combine them with other drugs.
